How do you know you’ve arrived if you don’t know where you’re going?

Why are you exercising? Before you start drinking the Kool-Aid you should ask yourself what do you want.

It seems that some of the current exercise trends want your goal to be get better at exercise. Why do you Cross Fit, Orange Theory or Shred 415, etc. because it’s there or because it falls in line with your fitness goals. Shouldn’t you set your fitness goals first then plan the best way to achieve them verses following goals that have been pre-set for you? Most of these current fitness trends answer to you reaching your goal is more. Is that the solution or their business model. The simple truth is you don’t have to kill yourself every time you exercise to get better or lose weight.

If your goal is to lose weight, change the shape of your body and burn more calories all day long then *…do more strength training (not lifting weights) *…less cardio (yes, HIIT is better) and *…eat better (not less). That’s not marketing it’s science.

1…You must lift heavy enough weight to cause a physical change in the muscle. This will add muscle to your body. When you add muscle you change the shape of your body and burn more calories at work and rest.

2…When you do cardio you burn calories and fat. The more muscle you have the more calories and fat you burn. HIIT cardio burns more calories and fat, helps preserve more muscle and increases your Heart Rate Variability which will prolong your health.

3…What you eat is the best way to control your weight. There’s no way around it. Stop beating yourself into the ground with cardio and exercise to make up for your bad eating. You will just be tired and fat. Diets don’t work. Any of them. Ever. Learn how to eat healthy. Keep it Simple. Train smart then train hard. Don’t become part of the assembly line of fitness. Set a course that’s right for you. Be a better you not a better exerciser.
